Cougars capture first MCAC women's volleyball title
The Assiniboine College Cougars are Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference champions for the first time.
The Cougars defeated the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers 3-0 to sweep the women's volleyball championship series on home court.
It was a full three years in the making for AC's veteran unit.
"As people get a little bit older and more mature, we were able to do more things. We were able to add a little bit to our offence," said coach of the year Kevin Neufeld.
"The biggest asset we had was the depth of our team. Not all 16 kids got to play as much but we got pretty deep. When we had to make some subs, we could do that quite well."
Championship MVP Kylee Peake finished both games with 16 kills, while Halle Meisner led CMU offensively in both matches and was named player of the game twice.
AC dropped just one set all weekend, in extra points during a 3-1 win on Saturday.
The Cougars head to CCAA nationals along with the Providence University College Pilots in Niverville March 11-14.
