Peters named female athlete of the week
The Providence University College Pilots were in rare territory they didn't want to be in.
Tyra Peters helped them climb out of it. The fifth-year left side led the PUC women's volleyball team to back-to-back wins, snapping a four-game losing streak that had them under .500 for the first time in a long time.
Peters is the MCAC female athlete of the week.
"It was a huge weekend for us heading into the break. A major part of our success was the play and leadership from Tyra," said Pilots coach Kyle Guenther.
"She led us on both sides of the ball as she led both teams with 24 kills over the weekend and was also the best passer over the two days. Tyra brought the level of play we have come to expect and was incredibly efficient all weekend. She was instrumental in getting us back to where we needed to be as a team all week and we will look to her as we make a push in the second half."
Peters posted 11 kills, five digs and two aces in Friday's 3-1 victory over Canadian Mennonite University, then had 13 kills and eight digs in the rematch, another 3-1 win.
Providence heads to the break in a three-way tie with Assiniboine College and CMU at 5-4, while the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges are 3-6 following a weekend split with the Cougars.
