MVP Bergen named female athlete of the week
Amanda Bergen knew exactly what it would take to end a seven-year drought.
She nearly led the Providence University College Pilots to their first MCAC women's volleyball title last year, then left no doubt on Saturday.
Bergen was named championship MVP, and is now MCAC female athlete of the week.
"That was the best I have ever seen Amanda set in her four years with us. Everything looked effortless, no matter where she was on the court on both nights," said Pilots head coach Kyle Guenther.
"What was even more impressive was the poise she showed in some pretty intense moments. She ran our offence incredibly well and consistently found the right matchups in transition. Amanda's emotional maturity and mental toughness were on full display this weekend. All of that culminated in a well-deserved tournament MVP recognition."
Bergen posted 31 assists, three blocks and an ace in Friday's 3-0 sweep of the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers, then recorded 38 assists with two more blocks and an ace in Saturday's four-set win.
The Pilots are headed to Oshawa, Ontario for CCAA nationals and face the VIU Mariners of PacWest on March 5 at 11 a.m. Central time.
