Hoytema named female athlete of the week
Cassie Hoytema does all the right things for the Providence University College Pilots.
This weekend, she was rewarded in a big way.
Hoytema earned a player of the game award and is now the MCAC female athlete of the week.
"Cassie had a fantastic game against USB on Saturday, and she has been playing at a high level all year," said Pilots coach Tory Walker.
"She is the type of player who always shows up and often gets overlooked because her stats don't show her impact. But this weekend, she broke out with two great goals, the first being the game-winner, and the second being a solid third goal for us. Cassie also pushes her team forward with her positive communication and energetic attitude."
The second-year midfielder scored two key goals in a 4-0 victory over the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges on Saturday, keeping pace with the Brandon University Bobcats in the race for first place.
BU beat Canadian Mennonite University 7-0 and Assiniboine College 10-0. In the other game, USB beat CMU 3-0 to move into third.
The Pilots have a heavy schedule with five games in the last two weeks due to a postponement from earlier in the season.
This weekend, PUC hosts CMU on Saturday and AC on Sunday. USB visits AC on Saturday and BU on Sunday.
