Owen named female athlete of the week

Halle Owen was a major problem for opposing goalkeepers on the weekend. The second-year striker from Providence University College scored not one but two hat tricks in a pair of Pilots victories.

Owen is the MCAC female athlete of the week.

She needed just 20 minutes to find the net three times in a 14-0 victory over Assiniboine College. Then, Owen played the full 90 and added three more goals in a 4-3 win over Brandon University, handing the defending champions their first loss of the season. "Halle created chaos for the Brandon teams' defences. Halle drove with the ball with pace and scored some hard-working, great-effort goals. Her ability to hold the ball and make defenders defend her is fantastic," said Pilots coach Tory Walker. "She drew more than 10 fouls against her in the BU game, and the one ended up resulting in the game winner, which she finished in the final minutes of the game. I was proud of Halle's competitiveness and composure this weekend, not getting frustrated and just sticking with her game. She is very deserving of the recognition and helped push our team forward with a big win against a very good team in Brandon University."

Brandon beat the Université de Saint-Boniface 6-0 on Saturday to remain in first place at 6-1-0. Providence is in second at 5-1-0. USB started the week with a 3-0 win over Canadian Mennonite University on Wednesday. In the other game, Assiniboine (2-6-0) beat CMU (2-5-0) by a score of 2-1 to join Les Rouges (2-4-0) with six points.

This weekend, BU hosts CMU on Saturday at AC on Sunday. USB hosts PUC on Saturday and AC on Sunday.
