Swaby named female athlete of the week
Olivia Swaby had a near-perfect start to the MCAC women's soccer season.
The Providence University College Pilots centre-back helped her team give up just one goal in two games on opening weekend.
Swaby is the MCAC female athlete of the week.
The Pilots beat the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges 4-1 and the Assiniboine College Cougars 10-0 to sit atop the league standings.
Swaby not only defended well but was involved offensively, setting up Providence's potent offence.
"Olivia, all pre-season and the first two games of the MCAC season, has really taken a step forward in her game. She has been the calm presence that this team has needed to start off the season," said Pilots coach Tory Walker.
"Her ability to dissolve attacks and drive forward, breaking lines, has stood out to me and her team. She has been a force, and with two big wins this weekend it has helped our team's confidence grow."
Elsewhere on the weekend, the defending champion Brandon University Bobcats beat the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers 11-0 on Sunday to open their season.
CMU defeated AC 3-1 on Saturday.
This weekend, Providence visits Brandon on Saturday and hosts CMU on Sunday.
USB hosts AC on Saturday and BU on Sunday.
