Bobcats defend MCAC women's soccer title
Goalkeepers aren't usually the centre of attention for the best reasons, but Josie Black was on Friday.
The Brandon University goalkeeper made a fantastic save on a well-struck penalty kick to help the Bobcats defend their MCAC women's soccer title, beating the Providence University College Pilots 2-1 at WSF North.
"That was the best feeling in the world. Oh my God. I don't think I've had a better save than that," said Black.
Kenadie Janzen converted a penalty kick to put BU ahead less than 10 minutes into the game. All-conference forward Keashae Masters doubled the lead on a terrific header soon after as the Bobcats went into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
It wasn't comfortable for long, as PUC's all-conference forward Serena Negrich answered with a header of her own early in the second half.
The Pilots had a golden chance to tie it with 10 minutes remaining but Black stepped up and denied them.
The goalkeeper is excited to return to CCAA nationals in Squamish, B.C. on Nov. 5-8 with this team.
"I've never had a better team of girls," said Black."I knew this was going to be a very, very tough game obviously, but I knew this group of girls, we had it. There was no doubt in my mind. Those two early goals just made it a lot easier for us to play calm and play our game."
