Bobcats claim first women's futsal championship

The Brandon University Bobcats pulled off the unthinkable on Sunday.
For the first time in more than six years, someone other than the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges hoisted the MCAC women's futsal trophy as the Bobcats beat Les Rouges in 6-2 in the final.
"We worked really hard. We were like 'We gotta go in there with our all.' We were going 100 per cent into everything and that's exactly what our team did," said final four MVP Brogan Henry. "Our whole team was a team today, it wasn't an individual performance, it was a whole team coming together."
Saint-Boniface blanked Providence University College 5-0 while Brandon beat Assiniboine College 4-1 in Saturday's semifinals.
Les Rouges struck first in the gold-medal game, but the Bobcats tied it on a Mackenzie Boyes chip from her own half that caught player of the game Alexis Gagnon off guard during an otherwise stellar performance.
Brandon went up 3-1 early and maintained the lead for most of the game as Jorja Hoad scored twice.
BU made it 4-1 before USB finally beat goalkeeper Josie Black midway through the second half.
After that, the Bobcats' relentless pressure was too much for Les Rouges in the final 10 minutes.
"Props to their goalie, their goalie was doing so much to save them and sometimes you need those fluke goals to go in and get the ball rolling and today it came for us," Henry said. "The last 10 minutes, we really got it going again."
