Les Rouges Sara Boissonneault - MCAC Athlete of the Week for week ending Feb. 19, 2023

The 2023 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) women's futsal season ended with another successful defence of the conference title by the #1 seed Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges. USB captured a fourth consecutive MCAC Championship title in front of a packed Loewen Athletic Centre in Winnipeg. Fourth year forward Sara Boissonneault was selected as Championship MVP.

Les Rouges (7-0-1 regular season record; 2-0 playoffs) beat the #2 seed Brandon University (BU) Bobcats by a 7-0 shutout result in the Championship Final on February 19.

With the championship win, USB defended their futsal title and extended their dynasty success with a fourth consecutive trophy (2019, 2020, 2022 and now 2023).

Boissonneault was a strong presence in the final and also during the 8-0 victory over the #4 seed Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers on Saturday, February 18 in the semi final match. The Winnipeg showed her leadership and continued to make an impact on both offence and defence. She set up multiple goals and also was part of effort in securing back-to-back shutouts during the playoffs and earning five consecutive clean sheets this year.

USB's head coach Justin Légaré commented on Sara's performance, "She was part of the second efforts to close up spaces on defence and was always a threat on offence to create opportunities for her teammates."

This also capped an outstanding season for the Nursing student-athlete. Boissonneault was also named as 2022 MCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year and earned All Conference award recognition earlier this season.
