LaRocque named women's basketball player of the year
Faith LaRocque has become a dominant force in MCAC women's basketball, reflected in both her stats and her team's record.
The Providence University College Pilots' star averaged 14 points, 7.1 rebounds and three steals per game while leading her team to a perfect 8-0 record.
LaRocque is the MCAC women's basketball player of the year.
"Faith has been consistent and impactful on both ends of the floor for us. Her work ethic is great, and she leads by example as a team captain. She competes on every possession and elevates everyone around her," said Pilots head coach Kendall Perpall.
PUC director of athletics Joel Coursey coached LaRocque last year, and knew a big season was in store.
"Faith has put in extra work from Day 1 as a Pilot to become the best player she can be. She is passionate about basketball and holds herself to a high standard," Coursey said. "Faith is incredibly disciplined in her training and how she prepares herself for competition. Faith is committed to her team and does everything she can to help the team win. This year, Faith has elevated her game to stand out in the MCAC as the most physically dominant player in the conference."
LaRocque led the league in steals while sitting second in points, blocks, rebounds, free throw percentage and field goal percentage.
She went 100 per cent from the free throw line three times this year, something that could be a huge asset as the Pilots host the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers in the championship game on Sunday in Niverville at 3 p.m.
