Girmay named female athlete of the week
Betty Girmay got it done on both ends of the floor on the weekend.
The third-year guard from Canadian Mennonite University led a massive defensive effort to come back and beat the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges on Friday, then shot the lights out in Saturday's rematch to win again.
Girmay is the MCAC female athlete of the week.
"Betty Girmay had an outstanding weekend as one of our main contributors to our two wins and culminating in an MCAC player of the game award on Friday," said Blazers head coach Sharlene Harding.
"She was a defensive force, endlessly terrorizing the opponents and grabbing six steals over the two games. More impressively, she put on a shooting clinic Saturday night with a 55 per cent field goal percentage and a 67 per cent three-point performance."
Girmay posted nine points and four steals in the 57-54 victory, and 16 points with four of six three pointers in a 61-52 victory.
The basketball teams are playing NIAC competition for the next two weekends, with the Blazers returning to the floor to face the Providence University College Pilots on the last weekend of January.
