Keeper Peterson named male athlete of the week
Nicholas Peterson was in line for one of the toughest tasks of his season last week. He took the challenge head-on and put on a few impressive performances.
The Canadian Mennonite University Blazers goalkeeper made 22 saves in three games at CCAA nationals.
Peterson is the MCAC male athlete of the week.
"Despite being a rookie, Nick Peterson has shown remarkable leadership and composure every time he steps onto the field. His positive attitude, humility, and consistency have made a real impact on the team," said Blazers coach Gode Katembo.
"Nick is not only an outstanding goalkeeper but also a respectful and kind young man admired by both his teammates and coaches for the way he carries himself on and off the pitch."
Peterson made eight saves in CMU's opening-round loss to Conestoga, then five while allowing just one goal to NAIT in the bronze-medal quarterfinals.
Peterson made nine saves as the Blazers won 3-2 over the Capilano Blues in their placement game, marking the second-ever win for an MCAC men's soccer team at nationals.
