Les Rouges W'esuu named men's soccer player of the year

Musaka W'esuu has surely earned the respect of opposing attackers and coaches this season.

The veteran defender for the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges helped the MCAC men's soccer defending champions to a 6-5-1 record in a rebuilding year.

W'esuu has been voted MCAC player of the year.

"Musaka's recognition as player of the year is a true testament to his incredible work ethic, consistency and influence on and off the field," said Les Rouges coach Yahia Chihab.

"While it's often attackers that grab the headlines, Musaka has proven that a fullback can just as powerfully change the game. His tireless energy, intelligent positioning and relentless drive make himself a constant force both in defence and attack."

W'esuu and Les Rouges' defence allowed 18 goals in 12 matches, while he contributed a game-winning goal and two assists on the other end.

Les Rouges face the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers at Cougars Field in Brandon on Sunday in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m.

The Brandon University Bobcats host the Providence University College Pilots in the other semifinal at 2:30 p.m.

The final is on Sunday at the Healthy Living Centre at 2:30 p.m.
