Rodriguez named male athlete of the week

Camilo Rodriguez quickly returned to his old ways on the weekend.

The Brandon University Bobcats striker scored five goals in two games, both wins for his hometown team.

Rodriguez is the MCAC male athlete of the week.

The fourth-year striker hit the net four times in a 5-1 win over Providence University College on Saturday, the Bobcats' first home game of the season.

The former MCAC player of the year scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win over the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges on Sunday to win a rematch of last year's final.

"Camilo is a player who is hungry for goals but always puts the team first. His offensive power gives Brandon University a chance to score every time he touches the ball," said coach Diego Rodriguez Jr. "This weekend, he was able to help the team by doing what he does best, putting the ball in the net. I am excited to help him reach new heights this season."

The Bobcats have a short break before a Wednesday match against the Assiniboine College Cougars.

Next weekend, the Cougars visit the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers on Saturday and Les Rouges on Sunday.

PUC visits USB on Saturday and CMU visits BU on Sunday.
