Gborie named men's futsal player of the year
Randy Gborie led the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges on a run to the top of the men's futsal standings.
Scoring five goals in three games on a busy week, he guided Les Rouges to three big wins and ultimately a 7-1-0 record to take the first seed for the playoffs.
Gborie is the MCAC men's futsal player of the year.
"Whether he's on the pitch or the futsal court, Randy stands out. He influences the game on both sides of the ball, making key plays offensively just as often as defensively," said Les Rouges athletic director Zoe Savoie.
"Having an athlete with Randy's experience alongside a new coach eager to learn has been the perfect combination, leading to a near-perfect regular season heading into playoffs. As an MCAC futsal champion, Randy knows what it takes to win — and he's hungry to add another medal to his collection."
Les Rouges face the host Providence University College Pilots in the first round of the playoffs in Otterburne on Saturday. Canadian Mennonite University and Brandon University play in the other semifinal.
The final is on Sunday at 3 p.m.
