Mrabet named men's futsal player of the year
Amine Mrabet quickly rose to the top of MCAC men's futsal.
In just his second season with the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges, he has been voted player of the year.
"Amine is one of the most important players in our squad. He provides a sense of security in the backline, an important part of our build-up play and he makes the right decision at the right time," said Les Rouges coach Yahia Chihab.
"On top of that, his dedication is unmatched. Amine is always looking forward to the next practice and game, takes the coaches' remarks to heart to work and keeps improving his game. In his second and final season, his progress compared to last season is so noticeable and we will miss having such a player on our team."
Mrabet led Les Rouges in minutes while recording eight goal contributions — goals plus assists — as a defender.
He led USB to a 7-0-1 regular season, good for the top seed entering the playoffs this weekend.
Les Rouges face the Brandon University Bobcats in the first semifinal at Assiniboine College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Assiniboine plays Canadian Mennonite University in the other at 1 p.m.
The final is on Sunday at noon.
