Matthew Pahl had no intentions of putting his team in a do-or-die situation.
The Canadian Mennonite University Blazer led an offensive outburst over the defending men's futsal champion Brandon University Bobcats, scoring three goals in a 9-2 comeback victory to clinch a playoff spot.
Pahl added four goals in an 8-6 win over Assiniboine Community College to roll into the final four on a high note.
Pahl is the MCAC male athlete of the week.
"Matt Pahl put in a phenomenal performance this past weekend, scoring an impressive seven goals," said co-head coach Gode Katembo.
"His exceptional talent and dedication were on full display, contributing significantly to securing our playoff spot."
The Blazers also kept the Bobcats away from the top seed for the playoffs on their home court on March 9-10.
CMU will play the top-seed Providence University College Pilots in the semifinals, with Brandon taking on the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges in the other semifinal.
Coming up this week, it's the volleyball final four hosted by Providence at Niverville's Community Resource & Recreation Centre.
The top-seed Blazers play the #4 Les Rouges at 4 p.m., then the Pilots square off with the Cougars at 6 p.m.
