Araya named male athlete of the week
Isaiah Araya knew the first weekend of 2026 was a big one for the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers.
With a chance to secure home court for the MCAC men's basketball final, he delivered.
Following back-to-back wins over the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges, Araya is the MCAC male athlete of the week.
"Isaiah has seen his game steadily improve along with his playing time since he started here with the team three years ago," said Blazers coach Scott Martin.
"Always one to put in the work on and off the court, Isaiah quietly goes about his business and it shows in his consistent play and ability to impact the game positively for our team."
The third-year guard recorded 17 points, three rebounds and two steals in Friday's 77-56 win and added 12 points and three rebounds in the rematch that CMU won 80-64.
The basketball teams are playing NIAC competition for the next two weekends, with the Blazers returning to the floor to face the Providence University College Pilots on the last weekend of January.
