Martin named MCAC men's basketball coach of the year
Scott Martin sees the bigger picture.
The Canadian Mennonite University Blazers men's basketball coach had a successful season in the win column but those around the program notice more.
"Scott is a talented and energetic coach who genuinely puts academics first," said CMU athletic director Cara Isaak.
"Right from the outset of recruiting, he's thinking about the athlete's complete academic journey and prioritizing that. He's a great role model for these student-athletes and seeing all his hard work pay off with some big wins this season has been really exciting."
Martin is the 2023-24 MCAC men's basketball coach of the year.
The fifth-year coach recruited well, adding several key players to help prevent a Providence University College three-peat this weekend.
While the Blazers lost two games to the Pilots early, they took the next two and secured the No. 1 seed for the playoffs and will meet PUC in Saturday's final at 8 p.m. at the Université de Saint-Boniface.
CMU also finished second in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The all-conference team and player of the year will be announced on Friday.
