Providence University College (PUC) Pilots ended the regular season with a home win over first place Brandon University (BU) Bobcats in week seven to finish second in the 2022 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) men’s soccer standings. Center back Sean Kirkpatrick helped the squad with his defence and added offensive impact.

The fourth year player was a key player during a shutout of Brandon in a 2-0 home win on Oct. 23 and snapping the Bobcats’ ten game winning streak. Kirkpatrick assisted and was key to limiting their potent attack.

The Swan River, MB native was in control as he organized the defence to limit the conference leading goal scorer to just four shots in the game while involved in set pieces on offence to secure the shutout victory.

“Sean is our captain on and off the field. He is the lone center back in our system and all season has been as steady as they come. Against Brandon, he was at his best in shutting down their relentless attack,” stated Mo Cato, PUC’s head coach. “I cannot say enough about Sean’s presence on our team. Quite simply, without Sean in our line-up, we are just not the same team. He’s that important to any success we’ve had so far this year.”

PUC completed the 2022 season on a seven game match winning streak plus recorded a 9-0-3 mark for this regular season.

The Pilots will be the second seed and face off against the third seed Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. CT kickoff in the MCAC Championship semi-final match hosted by ACC Cougars.
