At their first ever appearance at the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship, the MCAC representative and 2021-22 conference champion CMU Blazers competed against the Humber Hawks on Friday, March 25 hosted by Cégep Limoilou in Québec City. The Hawks won 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-23).
The CMU Blazers had to contend with the power of their opponents’ services. In the third set, the CMU Blazers gained confidence and even cause a tie at 23-23 on the score while the Humber Hawks got a drop of intensity. This rise was not enough to stop the Humber Hawks by the efficiency of 45% for their attacks.
A good example of the powerful attack of Humber Hawks is Joshua Fadare who deserved to be Player of the Match and who, at the second set, had already 14 successful attacks on 16 attempts. He finished the match with 21 points in total and an impressive efficiency of 68%. However, the player, satisfied with his performance, explained that they did not win yet: “We are expecting an intense match against Limoilou tomorrow, so we should stay focus.”
The libero Levi Klassen of CMU Blazers was named his team’s Player of the Match.
With the result, CMU now plays in bronze quarter final match against Red Deer Kings at 2 pm CT on Saturday, March 26.
2022 CCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship is presented from March 25 to 27 at the Cegep Limoilou, Quebec. Eight teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick compete for the title.
