Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers captured back-to-back MCAC championship after winning this season and now are the MCAC representative at the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship. 1. Your goal for this season…And has it changed now?

Answer: Our team’s goal for the season was to win the championship. We felt like we had the best team in the league, and we were prepared to prove it. After winning, our sights have shifted to Nationals. As this is the first time any team from the MCAC has gone to CCAA Nationals, we don’t entirely know what to expect so the current goals are to go there, play hard, and have fun!

2. Thoughts on being part of Nationals this season?

Answer: It’s a big honour to be the first MCAC team to represent our conference at nationals, and it was a big motivating factor during the regular season. I’m excited to go play against some big competition and hang out with the team.

3. When did you realize this team could do something special and make a championship run this year?

Answer: Right from the beginning of the season, I was confident in our abilities. We had a few close games with Providence at the beginning of the season that we lost. However, without having a season last year we were all a little rusty. When we played Prov. again before the winter break we played some of our best volleyball and it showed. That gave us a lot of confidence about our chances in playoffs.

4. Why did you choose volleyball as a sport?

Answer: I’ve been playing volleyball since I was 12 along with basketball and ultimate. After high school, I knew I wanted to keep playing sports in university and that volleyball would be my best chance to do that. I still play ultimate at a high level as well.

5. Who is the joker/fun person on your team?

Answer: I don’t know if I could pinpoint any specific person on the team as “the joker.” Everyone jokes around and gets along well, we have a great team atmosphere.

6. What are you listening to right now?…and/or pump up music?

Answer: Pump up music for me consists of a lot of late 2000s and early 2010s hip hop.

7. Best social media/website to follow?

Answer: I’ve been playing a lot of chess online lately, so I’ll say Chess.com

BONUS: Favourite TV show and/or movie?

Answer: Currently my favourite TV show is Ted Lasso. It’s great, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a laugh.
