7 Questions With…Val Gonzalez, USB Les Rouges Women’s Volleyball, 1st year left side

Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges won the MCAC championship this season and are the MCAC representative at the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship. USB play against Douglas College Royals in a Quarter-final match on Friday, March 25 at 6 pm CT hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, PE.


1. Your goal for this season…And has it changed now?

Answer: This season my goal was to win a MCAC banner for our gym. Now that we have completed that, I want us to play hard and give our all one last time before this season ends.

2. Thoughts on being part of Nationals this season?

Answer: It’s an amazing opportunity to play different teams, I’m excited to see where and how we finish out there. Mostly I’m so proud to be part of the first team from Manitoba to go!

3. When did you realize this team could do something special and make a championship run this year?

Answer: I realized early into the season that we would have a successful season, I felt the positive energy on and off the court. We are all super close and wanted to win for each other.

4. Why did you choose volleyball as a sport?

Answer: I chose volleyball because of how jealous I felt watching my older sister play.  I complained so much that my mom signed me up for the club season two months later.

5. Who is the joker/fun person on your team?

Answer: The joker on our team is definitely Sophie Morrice, even if she doesn’t start the joke she can always make it even funnier.

6. What are you listening to right now?…and/or pump up music?

Answer: The best pump up songs are by Pitbull, to be specific Fireball.

7. Best social media/website to follow?

Answer: The best social media account to follow is without a doubt @lesrougesusb on Instagram;) Always keeping their followers updated on the wins and upcoming events!

BONUS: Favourite TV show and/or movie?

Answer: My favorite series is the Vampire Diaries, the last episode can make me cry at any time.
