The 2021-22 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) men’s basketball regular season ended as Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges notched a statement win prior to the start of the playoffs. First year guard TJ Paguirigan was a key to the squad’s home win and earned MCAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 27, 2022.
The Kenora, ON native made an impact on both sides of the ball as he scored eight points (2/5 from the three point line), three rebounds, two assists plus two steals while playing tough defence as USB defeated second place Providence University College (PUC) Pilots by a 77-70 margin on Sat., Feb. 29.
The Les Rouges victory was the second time in their last three meetings against the PUC Pilots and sets-up for an intriguing post-season encounter.
USB’s head coach Christian Mouné commented. “TJ has been working hard since the beginning of the season. After struggling with his shot early in the season, he started to expand his game. This was on full display this weekend; creating for his teammates, knocking down shots and working hard on defence. It’s a testament to his work ethic and will to learn.”
The Nursing student-athlete at USB prepares for the rematch in the MCAC playoffs as Les Rouges face the Pilots in the semi-final with tip-off scheduled at 8 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 3.
