As the 2021-22 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) women’s volleyball regular season winds down, the first place Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges continue to roll along. Third year setter Samuelle Lemoine finished another impressive weekend and was recognized as MCAC Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 20, 2022.
The Winnipeg native registered 35 assists, 11.7 assists per set plus added a 88% dig percentage along with three kills in a straight set home victory over Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers on Sat., Feb. 19 in the second to last weekend of the regular season.
With the weekend win, USB is now on a four game winning streak, number one in MCAC standings with a 13-2 record while also holding the number ten spot in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national ranking heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
USB’s head coach Evan Turenne commented, “Sam is a top setter in the MCAC. Her ability to run the offense and create one on one situations for hitters allows her teammates to be efficient on offense. She defends and sees the court well. She’s a relentless competitor and never gives up on any play. As a team co-captain, she leads by example and gives the team a legitimate chance to win every set.”
The University One student-athlete at USB continues her stellar campaign as Les Rouges host second place Providence University College (PUC) Pilots on Saturday, February 26 at 6 p.m. CT.
