The top team in the 2021-22 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) men’s basketball standings is Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers. Over the weekend, fourth year guard Seth McKenzie led the squad to another victory and earned MCAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 20, 2022.
The Winnipeg native created many scoring chances and finished with a game-high 23 points in a tough 99-93 home win on Sat., Feb. 19 over second place Providence University College (PUC) Pilots. In 34 minutes of play, McKenzie went 7/14 (50%) from the 3-point arc and scored 12 of his 23 points in the third quarter when CMU pulled away. He also added four rebounds, four assists and three steals in the contest.
The win avenged the lone loss to the Pilots and improved the Blazers record to 10-1 during this season while now on a two game winning streak.
“Seth McKenzie is our most veteran player, and he certainly showed his experience and clutch shooting ability in our hard fought win on Saturday night,” stated CMU’s head coach Scott Martin. “Although in his final season with us, Seth continues to come to the gym everyday to work on his game in his quest to win a championship for this team and the Blazers program.
The Psychology student-athlete at CMU is ready for another big weekend as the Blazers face Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges at home with tip-off at 8 p.m. CT on Saturday, February 26.
