In the upset of the week, the Providence University College (PUC) Pilots knocked off previously unbeaten Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers in men’s basketball during the second week of the second half of 2021-22 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) season. Third year shooting guard Joshua Armstrong had a spectacular night during the home victory in the week ending Feb. 6, 2022.
The Mississauga, ON native filled up the bucket as he led the way with a game-high 28 points, with six rebounds, one assist and four steals in a 80-66 win on Fri., Feb. 4.
With the upset win, PUC moved to a 4-5 conference record and handed the Blazers their first loss after nine games. It was also the Pilots first ‘W’ over CMU in five tries so far this season.
“Josh was a key player in our win against CMU this past Friday. Beyond a great offensive performance, Josh took care of CMU’s best player in defence, limiting the quality of the shots he took when he was defending him, “ stated PUC’s head coach Pierre Dubreuil. “Josh is a quiet leader in our team, but a leader nevertheless. Playing at the SG position, his basketball IQ allows him to also lead the ball when needed. He ability to drive and finish with both hands create a lot of troubles for defenders. And if they back down to cover the drive, Josh is also a sharpshooter and able to knock down shots from all around the arc.”
The Psychology student-athlete at PUC wants to build on this big weekend as their next game will be on the road versus Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges on Saturday, February 12 at 8 p.m. CT.
