Blazers Tiegan Kroeker is the MCAC Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 6, 2022

Futsal returns to Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) play after almost two years away. The first leg of the women’s futsal games were played at Assiniboine Community College and Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers started the new season with a impressive showing from third year defender Tiegan Kroeker in the week ending Feb. 6, 2022.

The captain was strong on both sides of the ball with three goals and several defence plays during a win and draw against two Brandon rivals on Sunday, Feb. 6.

In the first game, the Blazers notched a 5-3 win over the Brandon University (BU) Bobcats. Kroeker registered her first-ever hat trick as she scored the first three goals of the contest. In addition, the Winnipeg native also factored into the game-winning goal plus assisted on the last-minute Blazer tally to clinch the victory. In the next game, the host ACC Cougars played hard and a 3-3 draw was the result. Kroeker provided solid defending throughout and blocked numerous clear goal-scoring chances while also adding crucial tackles to thwart offence chances.

“Tiegan led the team to a win and tie at ACC this weekend, which was a tremendous start to our season. Against BU, she had her first MCAC hat trick and against ACC, her shot-blocking and tackling helped us to hang on to the single point,” commented CMU’s head coach Cara Isaak

The Science student-athlete at CMU will play another two games in the second leg hosted by the Blazers when they compete against Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges at 2 p.m. CT and then play Providence University College (PUC) Pilots at 5:30 p.m. CT with both games on Sunday, February 13.
