The Providence University College (PUC) Pilots continue to roll along with another weekend series sweep in week five of the 2021-22 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) men’s volleyball season. The number one Pilots improved their league record to 7-1 while left side Austin Anderson was highly efficient on both offence and defence for the week ending Nov. 28, 2021.
The third year veteran is also a team captain and displayed his leadership with an impressive 29 kills, 14 digs, four blocks and four aces in an important road series victory against Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges over seven sets.
To start the weekend, the Niverville, MB native had 13 kills, five digs, two blocks, one ace and passed at a 2.5 average in a three set victory on Fri., Nov. 26. On Saturday night, Anderson continue to dominant with 16 kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks in a four set match win.
PUC’s head coach Cody Quiring stated, “Austin is a leader. His IQ is through the roof. His ability to manage the emotions of playing is excellent and he has become more and more efficient offensively each weekend that has passed. His passing, along with the entire team’s, was outstanding this past weekend and he displayed his calm demeanour while posting some incredible numbers on both sides of the ball in what was our first road matches since October.”
The Pilots are now on a four game match winning streak and avenged their only loss of this season against USB.
The Business Administration student-athlete at PUC will now go on the road as the Pilots travel to play at second place Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers on Friday, December 3 with first serve at 7:30 p.m. CT.
