Weekend Preview (Nov. 26-28) – 2021-22 MCAC Basketball/Volleyball

With two weeks left before the holiday break, the races are heating up in both the 2021-22 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) basketball and volleyball regular season action. This is the fourth week for basketball games while week five for volleyball matches.

Women’s basketball:

Nov. 26: Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers at Providence University College (PUC) Pilots – 6 pm CT start

The Blazers look to continue their perfect season as they enter the weekend with a 4-0 league mark. The Pilots are coming off a bye and seeking to extend their two game winning streak as they have started the young season with a 2-1 record. CMU won the first meeting on the season in the season opener on Nov. 5.

Nov. 27: CMU Blazers at PUC Pilots – 6 pm CT start

In the rematch match between both teams, there is an opportunity to either sweep the weekend or split with each other depending on Friday’s result. CMU has the top two MCAC scorers with Maizy Lawson in first and Annika Goodbrandson in second while PUC’s Trinity Blair is tied for third and Asha Donnelly in sixth for scoring average.

Men’s basketball:

Nov. 26: CMU Blazers at PUC Pilots – 8 pm CT start

Similar to the women’s match-up, both teams have identical records as CMU is 4-0 while PUC at 2-1. This is the second meeting of the season after the Blazers won the first game by a close 74-64 result. PUC’s Bryant Smith is tied for first in league scoring while Nathan Ens, former Athlete of the Week, is fifth. For the Blazers, Seth McKenzie and Isaiah Cole is third and fourth in MCAC scoring average.

Nov. 27: CMU Blazers at PUC Pilots – 8 pm CT start

This rematch match will continue an early rivalry between the two teams. There is a  opportunity to sweep the weekend or split with each other depending on Friday’s result.

Women’s volleyball:

Nov. 26: CMU Blazers at Assiniboine Community College (ACC) Cougars – 6 pm CT start

After a split weekend last week, CMU is in a tight battle for top spot as they sit third in conference standings with a 3-3 record. The Blazers have won twice so far on the road this season. For the Cougars, they are seeking their first match win as they have battled hard all season. Both teams have only meet once in 2021 and CMU prevailed by a three set victory as ACC looks to reverse that result on their home court.

Nov. 26: PUC Pilots at Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges – 6 pm CT start

A match between the top two MCAC teams. Les Rouges holds first place with a 5-1 record but suffered their first home loss last weekend and would like to bounce back with a win in front of the home crowd. The Pilots are 4-2 plus riding a two match win streak into this match. In a quirk of the schedule, this is only the second time PUC is on the road this regular season. Both teams only met on Nov. 13 with USB registering a three set win.

Nov. 27: CMU Blazers at ACC Cougars – 12 pm CT start

An early rematch with a noon start time. It will be a quick bounce back for both teams and should be interesting if any effects and change in result for Saturday’s contest.

Nov. 27: PUC Pilots at USB Les Rouges – 6 pm CT start

Expect another close battle as this rivalry continues with USB hosting again. Les Rouges fourth year middle Brielle Grenier was also selected as MCAC Female Athlete of the Week for week ending Nov. 21.

Men’s volleyball:

Nov. 26: CMU Blazers at ACC Cougars – 7:30 pm CT start

What a fight for first place in the MCAC standings. The Blazers enter this weekend with a 3-3 mark and want to register their first road wins of the young season. The Cougars hold a 2-4 record but would like to halt their three game losing streak. ACC has won both games at home and have not played in the own gym since Nov. 6. In the only match between the two teams so far in 2021, CMU won in three sets at home.

Nov. 26: PUC Pilots at USB Les Rouges – 7:30 pm CT start

The Pilots continues to lead the league with a 5-1 record and on a two game match streak into the weekend. Les Rouges have a 2-4 mark and want to shake off a loss to end last weekend. Both teams only met on Nov. 13 with USB registering a three set win on the road and PUC looks to avenge their only loss this year.

Nov. 27: CMU Blazers at ACC Cougars – 1:30 pm CT start

A rematch with an early start time as the Cougars host again. It will be a quick turnaround back for both teams and they should come out swinging for a competitive Saturday afternoon contest.

Nov. 27: : PUC Pilots at USB Les Rouges – 7:30 pm CT start

Les Rouges continue as host when they look to sweep the weekend while the Pilots would like to accomplish the same feat depending on Friday’s result. This should be another close affair as overall there is a tight battle among the four teams in the conference standings. PUC’s third year middle Tyler Klassen was also selected as MCAC Male Athlete of the Week for week ending Nov. 21.
