Weekend Preview (Nov. 12-14) – 2021-22 MCAC Basketball/Volleyball

This the second week of basketball for the 2021-22 season while volleyball enters week three in Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) regular season action.

Women’s basketball:

Nov. 12: Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges at Providence University College (PUC) Pilots – 6 pm CT start

One of these teams will earn their first conference win of the young season as they start the weekend with identical 0-1 records. This is the home opener for PUC as they look to record a ‘W’ in the first regular season game at the Niverville Community Resource & Recreation Centre.

Nov. 13: PUC Pilots at USB Les Rouges – 6 pm CT start

In the rematch match between both teams, there is an opportunity to either sweep the weekend or split with each other depending on Friday’s result.

Men’s basketball:

Nov. 12: USB Les Rouges at PUC Pilots – 8 pm CT start

This should be a close battle as both teams battled hard against Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers in week one. Someone will earn their first conference win of this season as they start the weekend with 0-1 records. This is also the home opener for PUC as they play in front of the home crowd for the first time in a regular season game at the Niverville Community Resource & Recreation Centre.

Nov. 13: PUC Pilots at USB Les Rouges – 8 pm CT start

This rematch match will continue an early rivalry between the two teams. There is a  chance to sweep the weekend or split with each other depending on Friday’s result.

Women’s volleyball:

Nov. 13: USB Les Rouges at PUC Pilots – 12 pm CT start

This a battle of the top two teams in the MCAC right now. Les Rouges are undefeated at 3-0 while the Pilots are 2-1 and won last Saturday. In addition, PUC’s second year middle Alex Buhler was recognized as MCAC Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 7, 2021. This is the first meeting of the regular season between the two squads and will be also be a good barometer at the beginning of the season.

Nov. 13: Assiniboine Community College (ACC) Cougars at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers – 12 pm CT start

This is the first match between the two teams this season. The Blazers have a 1-2 record but have an equal set won/loss mark at seven each and coming off a tough five setter loss last Saturday. The Cougars seek their first league victory as they have started 0-3 so far.

Men’s volleyball:

Nov. 13: USB Les Rouges at PUC Pilots – 1:30 pm CT start

PUC leads the way with a perfect 3-0 start to the season and will face USB for the first time in 2021-22 season. Les Rouges are looking for their first conference win as they hold a 0-3 mark to begin this campaign.

Nov. 13: ACC Cougars at CMU Blazers – 1:30 pm CT start

A close match is expected in the first meet-up between the two teams this season. ACC is on a two match winning streak and also have CMU’s rookie left side/setter Noah Barcellona as he was selected MCAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 7, 2021. CMU would like to stop a two game losing streak and rebound with a  win  as their record is 1-2 heading into this weekend.
