Les Rouges Sara Boissonneault is the MCAC Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3, 2021

The hottest team right now in the 2021 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) women’s soccer season is the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges (USB). They are now on a four game winning streak with another strong performance from striker Sara Boissonneault in week four.

The third year veteran scored twice in victories on September 30 and October 3.

The #15 CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) ranked Les Rouges began the weekend with a 3-1 home win against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers (CMU) with Boissonneault scoring the first goal of the match.

The Nursing student from USB was instrumental in the 2-1 hard fought road win over Providence University College Pilots (PUC) Pilots on Sunday, Oct. 3. She potted the game-winner just before the first half whistle.

“Sara is a hard-working, talented, and powerful player who is slowly getting back to full strength from dealing with injuries. She scored two big goals this weekend to help the team earn two tough victories,” stated USB head coach Justin Légaré.

With the two goals this week, Boissonneault now has tallied five – good for a third place tie in MCAC goal scoring.

USB is two points back of first place in the conference standings with a 5-1-1 record and should move up in the upcoming national weekly Top 15 ranking.

“Sara is a smart player and understands the game well, always ready to put in her maximum effort to help the team even in her limited time on the field,” continued Légaré. She will continue to work hard in hopes to get her back to 100% which will only help strengthen the team even more!”

The Winnipeg native looks to continue her strong season as USB goes on the road in week five. They play at Brandon Bobcats (BU) on Saturday, Oct. 9 and then at CMU on Sunday, Oct. 10. Game time for both matches at 1 p.m. CT.
