After a tough week two in the 2021 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) women’s soccer season, the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges (USB) bounced backed with two strong home victories led by midfielder Katie Moniot.
The fourth year veteran scored three goals in back-to-back wins on September 25-26.
Les Rouges co-captain Moniot started the weekend with a goal in a 4-0 upset win against #14 CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) ranked Providence University College Pilots (PUC) Pilots on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The reigning MVP added two more goals in a 7-0 Sunday result over Assiniboine Community College Cougars (ACC) Cougars. With her three goals this season, she has now leapfrogged into a third place tie in the MCAC women’s soccer goal scoring race.
“Katie is not only talented but also hard working and she had two solid games putting in work on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field and contributing a beautiful goal versus Providence and two more in the ACC game,” commented USB head coach Justin Légaré.
USB is now in second place with a 3-1-1 record and only two points behind #10 CCAA ranked Brandon Bobcats (BU) in the MCAC standings. Les Rouges could move into the upcoming national weekly Top 15 ranking – for the first time ever.
Légaré enthused, “She helped lead our team to secure two dominant victories this weekend, where the team gained some much-needed momentum and confidence.”
The Winnipeg native is in the science program at USB and now the team has a short week ahead as they host Canadian Mennonite University Blazers (CMU) on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. CT before travelling on the road to play at PUC on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. CT.
