Two games and two wins for the Providence University College Pilots (PUC) Pilots in week two of the MCAC men’s soccer season. Rookie defender Jai Virk made an impact in both victories.
On Saturday, Sept. 18, Virk was strong from the back as he won lots of defensive duels and started the attacks after winning the ball on the press. He was one of the keys in a come-from-behind 2-1 road win against the Brandon Bobcats (BU), the defending MCAC champs. The next day, Virk notched his first goal of the young season while adding three assists in a 8-0 home win versus Assiniboine Community College Cougars (ACC) Cougars.
“Jai had a very solid weekend for us. He was key in our comeback win against Brandon. He won defensive duels, started our offense, and created the intensity we needed to pull off the late win,” stated PUC head coach Joey Passi.
The weekend sweep has the Pilots now atop the MCAC standings with a perfect 3-0-0 record.
Passi enthused, “Against ACC he lit it up with three solid assists and one goal while also defending very solidly in the middle of the park. He’s a consistent player who wins most of his tackles, helps maintain possession, and launches attacks for us from the midfield. He was a big reason for us coming out of this weekend with two solid wins against good competition.”
The Business Administration student from Brampton, Ontario looks to build on his strong play as PUC are on the road at the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges (USB) on Saturday, Sept. 25 and then host the Bobcats on Sunday, Sept. 26. Both matches will start at 3:15 pm CT.
