What a debut. Brandon Bobcats (BU) rookie forward Kira Ireson scored three times in leading the Bobcats to two road victories to start the 2021 MCAC women’s soccer season during the opening weekend.
Brandon began with a 4-0 win over the Assiniboine Community College Cougars (ACC) on Sept. 11 and then completed the successful weekend by winning 7-1 at Canadian Mennonite University Blazers (CMU) on Sept. 12.
Ireson scored the Bobcats’ first goal of the conference season in 686 days as she set the pace for Saturday’s season opening win.
The next day, Ireson notched two more goals (43’, 67’ minute) in their second consecutive road win to improve the Bobcats record to a perfect 2-0-0 and lead the conference so far this year.
“Kira has come in and immediately let her personality shine throughout the group. This has allowed her to settle in and be comfortable and confident on the field,” commented Brandon head coach Jesse Roziere. “She had a good opening weekend, scoring our first goal of the season on Saturday. She followed it up by stepping into a different position Sunday, and adding a couple more goals. Her energy has added a lot to our young group.”
The first year player from Markham, Ontario is in the science program at BU.
BU returns to the pitch as they host Providence University College Pilots (PUC) Pilots on Saturday, Sept. 18 and Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges (USB) on Sunday, Sept. 19 with game time at 1 p.m. CT for both matches.
