Cerulean Wolfe is the most recent CMU women’s volleyball recruit to commit herself to the Blazers for 2021-22. Excelling through her high school career at Northlands Parkway Collegiate in Winkler, Manitoba, the versatile 5’7 left-side, who has seen much of her competitive experience playing as a middle, is eager to step back on the court and make up for both lost time and lost opportunity.
Wolfe fell in love with the game after joining Aztecs volleyball club in 2017 where her confidence and abilities on the court began to shine. Later that same year, at NPC, she would help the junior varsity program win a zone championship only to receive some bad news the following winter that due to the low number of athletes in the Aztecs system, the female program in Wolfe’s age group was forced to be cancelled.
Despite the supposed setback, Wolfe continued to excel. The 2018 high school season saw her selected as team captain and eventually as Most Valuable Player, as she led the Nighthawks to another JV zone championship.
Prior to losing her senior season to the pandemic, Wolfe was the only Grade 11 athlete at NPC to be a regular selection to the starting rotation during the 2019 season.
“What Cerulean lacks in hours spent in the club circuit, she makes up for in intelligence, work ethic, athleticism and passion,” said CMU head coach Jayme Menzies, who named Female Indigenous Coach of the Decade by MASRC (Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council), for her role in coach mentorship, community building and excellence in coaching. “I am looking forward to witnessing Cerulean’s versatility, coachability and positive attitude, contribute to our team’s chemistry and success.”
CMU is preparing to enter their first season as full members in the CCAA. The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference made a successful bid for membership in the national association for collegiate sports in Canada in 2018 and after two years as probationary members, have the opportunity to compete at a national championships beginning in 2021. The 2021 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Nationals will be held in Halifax next March.
