BU Bobcats goalkeeper William Tonning finished opening weekend tied for first place in MCAC futsal scoring.
Tonning, the first-year goalie from Slagelse, Denmark made key saves in net and was a primary source of offense for Brandon over their opening two games.
The Bobcats opened their season against the CMU Blazers, where Tonning made a key save in the final seconds to hold onto a 3-3 tie.
Brandon topped the PUC Pilots 5-3 in their second game of the weekend, with Tonning scoring a hat trick and making a number of impressive saves to lead BU to the win.
“Knowing William is behind us gives our team a boost and a level of confidence to continue to try and play the game the way we believe it should be played,” said Bobcats head coach Jesse Roziere. “We know he is there and will make saves.”
Tonning is enrolled in the BPES (Bachelor of Physical Education Studies) at BU, but don’t get used to seeing Tonning in MCAC action, as he has committed to make the jump to U SPORTS and play for MacEwan University next year.
Brandon has picked up where they left off after winning their first MCAC soccer championship in school history a few months ago.
The futsal season continues this weekend when the Bobcats host the ACC Cougars on Friday, Jan. 17.
