Congratulations to Alison Zajac, senior forward for the PUC Pilots women’s basketball team, who is our female athlete of the week!
The Pilots (12-2) and Blazers (13-1) met this past weekend in a highly anticipated clash of the top two seeds in NIAC/MCAC women’s basketball. Zajac, also celebrating her senior night and last home game of her career, had a season-high 21 points and 9 rebounds in the Pilots 64-61 win over the Blazers, handing them their first loss of the season. She followed up her strong performance with 13 points and 7 rebounds on Saturday.
“Alison is a classic example of what a coach looks for in a four-year player,” said Pilots head coach Joel Coursey. “She’s been the anchor to our defense this season. We don’t typically look to her for offensive output, but when our team struggled to put the ball in the hoop, she combined for 34 points on the weekend, leading us to a big win on Friday night.”
“I am incredibly proud of the way she has been finishing off her career as a Pilot,” Coursey continued. “We’ll be looking to her as we attempt to make a run in the playoffs.”
The Pilots will have this week to prepare for the MCAC semifinals on Friday, February 8 at 6PM against the Red River College Rebels (5-9). The winner will move on to play top-ranked CMU Blazers on Saturday, February 9 at 2PM. All games will be played at CMU’s Loewen Athletic Centre. #BannerSZN
