In his fifth year as Red River Rebels women’s volleyball head coach, Dan McGregor, also an accomplished coach at the club level while being named 2017-18 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) Coach of the Year, commented upon the prospects of the upcoming 2018-19 season, “Each year the team has gotten a little bit better and we are hoping that this is the year that we can take the next step to make it to the conference final.”
Goal number one for the Red River Rebels men’s volleyball team is to qualify again for the playoffs in the 2018-19 season.
The return of team’s MVP Josh Goossen is a huge boost, as he will be playing a full year after playing the second half of last year. Goossen, who also played with the Manitoba Bisons at the U SPORTS level, was the team leader in kills when he arrived. Head coach Lindsey Habib – named Volleyball Manitoba Elite development coach of the year for 2017 – commented, “With Josh Goossen, we have arguably the best player in the league. When we put him in a good position it doesn’t really matter what the other team does, he’s a hard guy to stop. If we can pass well, we will always have a chance.”
The Red River Rebels men’s basketball team started their defense of their Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) with a split on opening weekend, with a win Saturday and loss on Sunday on the road against the Association Free Lutheran Bible School Conquerors during the first weekend of the 2018-19 MCAC/NIAC (Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) season on Nov. 3-4.
