Congratulations to Victor Hugo Gomes de Abreu, midfielder for the CMU Blazers who is our male Athlete of the Week! Victor scored against the Pilots this weekend from a terrific free-kick and added in an assist in their 5-1 win.
Victor was one of two MCAC players, including Alex Alvarado from Brandon, to advance past Day 1 of the Canadian Premier League Open Trails in Winnipeg this past week that included over 220 players at Investors Group Field.
“The young Brazilian is outstanding with the ball on his feet, he has great dribbling skills and a powerful shot that gave CMU a few stunners from outside the box this season, including a great free kick this past weekend against Providence Pilots,” said Blazers head coach Anderson Pereira. “He has also assisted many goals this season with his accurate passing and quality when building the game. He is a smart versatile player able to adapt and do great in any position on the field.”
The Blazers will take on the PUC Pilots in this weekend’s Final Four at 2:15 PM on Saturday, October 27 at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex. The winner of the match will move on to the 2018 MCAC Men’s Soccer Championship Final the following day at 3:30.
