CMU Athletics would like to introduce Roy Rodriguez as the new Head Coach of the Women’s Volleyball Program. Well established in the local volleyball community, Rodriguez has already gotten his coaching feet wet in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference for parts of five seasons. From 2008 to 2011, Rodriguez was part of the Red River Rebels men’s coaching staff, working under current Queen’s University Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Ryan Ratushniak. For the next two seasons, Rodriguez would join the Rebels women’s coaching staff. In 2014, Rodriguez had a brief stint as an assistant coach with CMU, under former Blazers Head Coach Joe Moore.
Moore and Rodriguez have continued their coaching partnership this spring with the Junior Bisons 18u Girls who finished second at the Brandon ‘Cats Tournament and scored a second silver at the Best of the West Tournament in Calgary this club season.
“Roy has coached alongside some very established coaches and high-level programs and comes to us with a great deal of support from those who he has worked with in the past,” said CMU Director of Athletics, Russell Willms. “We are happy to pass the program on to Roy and believe in his ability to bring out the best in a team and the athletes that he works with.”
High-performance and developmental coaching is a big part of Rodriguez’s sgrong resum. The new Blazers coach has been very involved in the Manitoba National Training Centre and Western Elites since 2008 as both an assistant and head coach. In the club circuit, Rodriguez coached with some of the top provincial programs including Winman, 204 and Joust and Junior Bisons.
CMU Women’s Volleyball will host an open team tryout on September 3rd. All interested, registered full-time CMU students are welcome to attend. To contact coach Rodriguez about your interest in competing for the Blazers in the MCAC this season, email email@example.com
