The Canadian Mennonite University Blazers are the 2018 MCAC Women’s Futsal Champions after defeating Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges 5-2 in the final on Sunday.
Camille Plett dominated all weekend notching five total goals including a hat-trick in the championship match. She never took the jets off Les Rouges by constantly pressuring them in their end. Plett was awarded tournament MVP for her outstanding efforts.
Her teammate Marijka Yaschyshyn, the MCAC’s regular season MVP, was solid on defence rarely letting anything get past her. Her teamed with Lydia Balsillie, the Blazers goaltender, was a tandem Les Rouges had a tough time getting passed. Balsillie made a few incredible saves in the second half from corner and free kicks.
Daneige Edey, Les Rouges’ keep, also did a mighty job in her own net stretching out for some tough saves throughout the game. Stephanie Berube and Megan Burns were also very strong all weekend.
