5 : Goals scored by Julika Kehler in Providence University College’s win over Canadian Mennonite University last Sunday.
3: Goals scored by CMU.
2: Times Julika Kehler has been named Athlete of the Week in the MCAC 2016-17 Season (Week 7, Week 19).
Julika Kehler put up a huge effort last Sunday when her PUC Pilots upset the CMU Blazers 5-3 in women’s futsal action. Thanks to Kehler outscoring CMU, the Pilots now sit just 1 point behind third-place Brandon University in MCAC standings.
Entering Saturday’s game against the Blazers, Kehler’s Pilots were looking to get past a .500 winning record (2-1-2) and keep up to the Bobcats, RRC Rebels and CMU Blazers who have all reached 3 wins so far.
Head Coach Tory Walker – who also coached Julika during the MCAC soccer season – explains how passionate an athlete Kehler is.
“Julika is a coaches dream. She comes to practice with a huge love for the game of soccer and love for her teammates. She works hard everyday to get better and is always willing to listen and learn. Julika is the cornerstone of our team and the girls are learning a lot from her leadership and dedication”.
Walker says that Kehler’s ability to create space and time with a ball between her feet translates perfectly to the futsal court, where she has been a league standout this season. Kehler was named to the 2016-17 women’s soccer All-Conference team back in October, as well.
“She is always trying to be a presence on the pitch”, says Walker. “She has met that challenge and is always a threat. I have also encouraged her to be willing to take on players when she is in a one-on-one against an opponent. She is more willing to take risks and take players on and her performance shows that.”
Kehler and her Pilots will host Assiniboine Community College this Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by Brandon University at 4 p.m. in Otterburne, Mb.
