The Providence Pilots jumped out of the gate in the first men’s semifinal of the day and ran all over CMU before the Blazers had a chance to get their playoff legs under them. Providence led by as many as 21-9 at one point, before CMU remembered they had an important game to play today and snapped back into form. After cutting Providence’s lead to 25-21 at the end of the first quarter, the Blazers shredded PUC in the second outscoring them 25-5. Speedy point guard Ridel Ebreo and workhorse forward Sam Kinsley led the Blazers with 10 points each and Regular Season MVP Romeo KC had 13 for Providence going into the half with PUC up 46-30.
CMU picked up where they left off in the beginning of the second half, outscoring PUC 23-13 in the third quarter. Big man Jacob Penner grabbed 13 rebounds for CMU in the semifinal matchup and was a force to be reckoned with down low. On the outside Ridel Ebreo matched Providence’s Romeo KC on the point, two extremely fast guards who dictated an extremely fast pace for the game. Ebreo led all scorers with 24 points in the game and had some very flashy assists to go along with his 5 steals. Guards Harold Mermita and KC both led Providence with 16 points each on the night.
Memita was named Player of the Game for Providence while forward Jaden Harms was named Player of the Game for CMU.
