In Week 18, the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers women’s volleyball team earned two big wins thanks in part to two big games from 5’8” left side Katie Reeves.
In a clash between the #2 Blazers and #1 ranked Providence University College Pilots on Friday night, Reeves led all players with 23 kills to go along with her 12 digs and a 3-2 upset win for CMU (26-24, 23-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-9).
Reeves then added to her weekend totals the following night, posting a game-high 22 kills over 4 sets played against the University of Winnipeg on Saturday, to go along with a team-leading 14 digs on her own side of the court.
The wins moved CMU within a single game of Providence in the MCAC standings just a week before the 2016-17 regular season wraps up. Reeves and CMU have one last game against Universite de Saint-Boniface tomorrow at 6pm that they will need to win if they want to give themselves a shot at capturing the 1-seed going into playoffs on February 25th and 26th.
Originally from Lockport MB, Reeves played her high school volleyball at powerhouse Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute before joining Brandon University’s CIS program for a season. Now in her second year of eligibility, Reeves appears to have fit into the Blazer’s program seamlessly.
