Mackenzie Hildebrand named Week 14 Athlete of the Week

The Canadian Mennonite University Blazers hung several W’s last weekend, one of which keeps them in first place within the MCAC. Via CMU Athletics Program Assistant, Joshua Ewert:

“Our teams were in Alberta this past weekend in ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference) exhibitions where injuries to three of our men’s team starting hitters meant Mackenzie Hildebrand had to carry the team on his back, playing all 13 exhibition sets (a five-set loss to The King’s University, a five-set loss to Lakeland College, and a three-set victory over Augustana College).”

A big weekend for any volleyball athlete, no doubt. Ice your legs and kick back on Sunday, right? Instead, the Blazers headed east back to Winnipeg to see the University of Winnipeg College on Sunday night, winning in 3 sets and commanding their first place rank over their home conference.

“Mackenzie is our rock, and he was the driving force behind the team’s play this weekend”, says CMU Head Coach, Don Dulder

Playing his high school ball out of Steinbach Regional Secondary, this is Hildebrand’s first campaign with CMU after a season spent red-shirting for the University of Manitoba. He and the Blazers will have until February 25th to stave off the rest of the MCAC and keep their #1 ranking, when the Final Four’s are held at Universite de Saint-Boniface.
