In Week 13, 3rd-year right-side LaRae Driedger of the Providence University Pilots women’s volleyball team amassed 40 kills, 24 digs, 9 blocks, and 5 aces in three matches to help her Pilots keep a sterling 9-0 undefeated record intact. Driedger played in all 3 matches against #3-ranked Red River College, #6 University of Winnipeg College and #2 Canadian Mennonite University, and head coach Kyle Guenther says a great deal of the Pilots’ success this season has begun with Driedger.
“LaRae has been incredible for us all year. As one of our leaders on the team, she leads not only with her play on the court but also in the dressing room, in timeouts and team meetings. LaRae is one of the most intelligent players I have ever seen, knowing when to use different styles of attacks, seeing the defense in front of her and reading plays so well. “
After winning the 2015 MCAC Championship on home court last season, the Pilots have carried at least some of their winning habits into the 2016-17 campaign having coughed up only 4 sets so far this season to go along with their 27 won. They sit atop the conference with 18 points with the CMU Blazers trailing with 14.
“We have counted on LaRae a lot this first semester and will continue to do so in the 2nd semester” continues Guenther. “She is very gifted athletically and gives us an edge against most of our opponents having someone so strong on the right side. She is a big reason why we are 9-0 in MCAC and why we have had so much success early in our season.”
The Pilots will resume MCAC competition in 2017 when they host Universite de Saint-Boniface on January 11th.
