Jessica Marx-Houndle named Week 10 Athlete of the Week

According to the stats, Jessica Marx-Houndle is a good fit for the MCAC.

In her rookie season with the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers, the 5’9” guard has shown an effectiveness to the tune of 10.3 points a game on 53.3% shooting, the best field goal percentage in the MCAC. She has also registered four blocks over all five of the Blazers’ wins this season, a team leading the conference in virtually every scoring category including most points per game with 72%.

“Jessica has made a great transition from high school to university basketball” says Blazers head coach, Joe di Curzio. Marx-Houndle is a local product of Westwood Collegiate in Winnipeg, and is one of eight first-years on CMU this season. The youth on their roster hasn’t seemed to hinder them as almost every individual offensive stat in the MCAC belongs to one of the Blazers.

“She has been focus on attacking the basket and is a tremendous defensive standout” says Curzio.

Marx-Houndle and the Blazers don’t see another conference game until Friday, November 25th, 6pm against Providence University College in Otterburne, Mb. In the meantime, the Blazers will host the Cankdeska Wolves of the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this Saturday and Sunday.
