Derek Tessier named Week 17 Athlete of the Week

Outdoor, indoor, grass or hardwood. Anyway you slice it, Derek Tessier knows how to score goals.

A standout on the Rebels’ soccer team as well, the Red River College futsal sniper currently leads the MCAC with 17 goals on a team that shares the lead with Universite de Saint-Boniface for first in the conference.

Tessier finished the soccer season second in scoring back in October, and RRC’s men’s soccer and futsal coach, Jordan Goetting says Tessier is invaluable to the Rebels’ futsal team’s success.

“He’s the hardest working player who leads the league in goals, all while playing in a defensive position. He helped our team beat the number 1 and 2 seed while only allowing 2 goals-against through two games. He also does a good job “keeping it safe”.

Tessier and the Rebels finished the season with 6 wins and 2 losses, currently good for first place. They’ll enter the Futsal Championships at Canadian Mennonite University next weekend, March 5th, amongst a very competitive men’s field.
