Lindsay Young named Week 16 Athlete of the Week

As far as Red River College’s Lindsay Young is concerned, her 2016 MCAC women’s basketball season has been about quality over quantity.

“Lindsay rejoined the team late in December”, says RRC head coach Jae Pangilinan.
“Since she’s been back she’s dominated the stat sheet with outstanding productivity numbers, 20.4  – second place has 13.3.  In that time she’s lead the league in scoring and rebounding with an average of 12.6 points and 12.3 rebounds.”

Young earned her Week 16 Athlete of the Week honours by posting a double-double against the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen, putting up 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 2 assists and 2 steals en route to a 75-42 win.

Young’s average of 13 points per game over her 8 game season is good for second in the league, just .3 points shy of Providence University College’s Amber Harms. Young also led all MCAC players in rebounds averaging a whopping 12 per game, and was named to the 2016 All-Conference team.

The Rebels enter this weekend’s MCAC Basketball Final Four Championships looking to keep a red hot streak alive – they’ve been crowned the league’s best the past 4 seasons in a row, their men’s team 7. The lady Rebels face off in the women’s first semi-final at noon on saturday against the PUC Pilots.
